ABOUT DOUGLAS SIMONSON and SIMONSON ON LOCATION
NO SHAME, JUST BEAUTIFUL NAKED MEN.
Douglas Simonson has been making art since he was old enough to hold a crayon--and he began taking photographs not long after that. He grew up in the cattle country of western Nebraska, not happy about it. He didn't know he was gay, he just knew he didn't fit in.
Later, he figured it out, and from that revelation found his focus and his passion as an artist. As the artist tells it:
"As a kid I felt guilty for looking at pictures of naked guys. I was confused. I didn't know that for a gay boy that was normal and healthy! Now I'm all grown up and I've made it my life's work to photograph and paint gorgeous male nudes that get you hard and make you happy!"
MOVING TO THE TROPICS
He moved to Hawaii in 1971 and lived there for 40 years, building a life and career based on his passion for the male nude and his amazing ability to capture that subject in a myriad of approaches and media. As his skill grew, he was able to build a worldwide collectorship for his drawings and paintings.
SHARING HIS MALE-NUDE PHOTOGRAPHY WITH THE WORLD
Simonson had already been an artist for over 25 years when he realized what a powerful body of work his photographs represented, and that they deserved to be shared. In 2008 he began exhibiting and selling his male-nude photographs, and they were a big hit almost immediately.
CREATING A TROPICAL MALE-NUDE PHOTO SITE
That led to the creation of this site, Simonson On Location. The artist wanted a site that would show some of the hundreds of thousands of images he's shot of beautiful nude Brazilian, Hawaiian, Asian, Latin, Black and even Caucasian men. He wanted to put entire photo shoots online, so that admirers of the ethnic male nude could see it all, uncensored. As the artist says, "I wanted it to be like you were an assistant at a Simonson photo shoot. You get to see everything, with nothing left out, because you're there, behind the scenes. That's what a Simonson On Location subscription gets you."
THE MALE-NUDE PHOTO SITE THAT MAKES YOU SMILE
The Simonson On Location website went live in June 2010 and was an immediate success. It has proven to be the site the artist intended: a place where admirers of the exotic male nude, gay men and otherwise, could "come along for the ride" and spend time with Simonson on location. Much of Simonson On Location's success can be attributed to Douglas Simonson's philosophy about finding and photographing beautiful young nude males:
"I love that I get to travel the world finding beautiful young male exhibitionists to photograph in the nude. But I don't just snap their pictures. I get to know them. I spend time with them, making sure we're comfortable with each other, so that when we work together, we're relaxed and having fun. In the best possible way, these young guys surrender themselves to my camera. This results in some very hot, sexy, exciting images of the tropical male nude, but with something extra: a feeling of joie de vivre, that joy of life that comes from embracing one's own physical excitement. You'll see it in the faces of my young friends as they roll in the surf, climb trees in the jungle, or just lie in the sun enjoying the heat on their beautiful muscular bodies.
